Second Trimester Bumpdate: Weeks 15-28

Second Trimester Bumpdate

Well, that’s a wrap on the second trimester! I seriously cannot even believe I’ve now entered into my third trimester. I will tell you this ladies, when they say the second trimester is much better than the first, they’re not kidding! Not only did it fly right by, I felt pretty good the entire time. I do believe it’s the trimester with some of the most changes, but exciting and fun changes!

It wasn’t until about week 15 that I truly started to feel those first trimester symptoms start to really fade. I regained my energy and any nausea I was feeling was gone. We got a blood test for the genetic testing at 11 weeks which included the gender, but waited until my parents came into town to do the gender reveal. At that point I was about 17 weeks, don’t ask me how I waited to open it for 3 weeks!  It was really exciting finding out what we were having, I’m way too impatient so I could have never waited all 9 months. I thought it was a boy all along, but Mo thought it was a girl so I think he was a little surprised. We would have been happy either way though! It’s true when they say as long as the baby is healthy that’s all that really matters.

When I was in between weeks 18 and 19 I started to feel him kicking in there, which was so cool! That was the one part I have to say made it really start to feel real. It was kind of crazy because Mo could actually feel him moving at that point too; this babe is definitely full of energy! At 20 weeks I went in for my anatomy ultrasound which was another cool experience being able to get to see all of the different body parts. I had a high risk ultrasound because there was a line in my placenta and they weren’t sure what it was. It ended up being a fold in my placenta that just ended up disappearing at that point and nothing we needed to end up worrying about. Because it was high risk they were super detailed with everything though. They literally counted every single finger and toe and focused a lot on the brain.

It wasn’t until I hit 24 weeks that I felt like my belly actually really started to pop and look like a baby bump. I never realized how much the bump does change from morning to night though. In the morning I wouldn’t even look pregnant, and by the end of the day it would be out and about. Last week I took the glucose test for gestational diabetes (I was really dreading this one!) I had heard so many horror stories, but in the end I didn’t think it was all that bad. The drink wasn’t great, but it also wasn’t disgusting and thankfully I passed the first time!

The second trimester symptoms that I experienced most were bleeding gums when I would floss or sometimes blood when I blew my nose, I had heard that it could happen, but wasn’t too bad. The most annoying symptom was definitely the indigestion! Mo makes fun of me and calls me a burping machine haha! I did notice myself getting up to go to the bathroom about once a night, which I didn’t think was too bad. Once it gets to more than that, I’ll start complaining!

One thing I wish I would have been better about the second trimester was being more active. We had a lot of people come in town and visit us during this time, so my eating habits weren’t the greatest and my workouts definitely suffered. Overall to this point I am up 19 lbs from my normal weight. I’ve definitely been eating a lot healthier lately, but I’m hoping to be more active this last trimester. I know I won’t regret it when I’m in labor!

As far as the nursery and things around the house, I need to get my butt in gear! I have the furniture picked out for the nursery, which I will share with you guys when it’s all set up. But there is still so much that needs to be done. We also need to get signed up for a some baby classes because we’re not the most seasoned when it comes how to take care of a newborn lol!

Overall the second trimester was a pretty good one. Here’s to hoping the third will be just as smooth!

Xoxo,

Danielle
