Oh Instagram! The app we love to hate or hate to love?! As a blogger/influencer, it’s become the number one social platform to help you grow your blog/brand. Over the years it also has definitely become harder and harder to get recognized with the amount of users that are now on there and the algorithms that change so quickly. Sometimes it’s so hard to keep up and it makes you think there is some sort of secret code you need to crack to be recognized. I know I have felt like that many of times! It was just recently that I learned some new tips and tricks that have helped me to see some growth instead of feeling stuck. Below are the features that I think you should be using on Instagram to help you grow your account if you’re feeling you’ve hit a plateau.

1. Use your analytics

If you haven’t switched over from a personal to a business account, do that immediately! When you become a business account, it gives you the insights into how your posts are performing, who your followers and what times are the best post. This is also a great way to know what your followers like seeing. At the beginning of each week I’ve been writing down my insights so I can see how I’ve done the past week and to get an idea of what I’m posting is doing well, or what I should be passing on.

2. The explore page/ the drop down arrow for suggestions to follow

In order to grow you also need to be putting your account out there and following other accounts that you like or are in the same type of niche. To find other accounts I like to use the explore page which can be found under the search tab. The more active you are on your account the more it should be bringing up accounts that you are actually interested in. Another great way to find new accounts to follow is looking at accounts that you like or are similar to yours and using that little arrow in their profile next to the follow button. It will bring up a bunch of suggestions for you to follow.

3. Hashtags

I have heard pretty mixed feelings about the use of hashtags while posting. Some people believe that they have become irrelevant, but I say why not use them! I definitely don’t think you should be using all hashtags that have millions of tags because you will obviously get pushed down to the bottom very quickly. But if you mix it up and put in hashtags that are also moderately used (within the 500,000- 2,000,000 range) I still think it can help. There are days I scroll through the hashtags even to find new accounts to follow as well.

4. Like and reply

Make sure to be engaging with the people on your account, this is why it’s called social media! When people are liking and commenting on your photo, like their comment and reply to them. You can also click over to their account and show them some love on their photos as well. It’s especially important to do this right after you post your photo for the day. It’s a great way to get people over to your account and engaging on your new post. I also take time throughout the day to make sure I’m scrolling through and engaging with the accounts that I follow.

5. Tagging feature

Tag all of the accounts that are relevant to your photo. I always tag the Liketoknow.it account, any brands that I have on in my photo and that have an IG account, the place I am at if it’s a hotel, restaurant or something like that, and sometimes I will do accounts like ootd magazine, ootd submit, ootd bloggers etc.

6. Use your location

Using a location on your photo just helps to get more eyes on your post. There’s a few different ways you can utilize the geotag and that is by putting the actual location you’re at. For example the store, restaurant or wherever it may be; or you can tag the city you’re currently in. I think it’s good to switch it up and use both

These are a few of the things that I think help to keep your account growing. If you stick to it consistently, you will definitely see an upturn with your stats. What are some things you believe have helped your Instagram growth?

Xoxo,

Danielle
