Travel Guide: Alaska

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of taking a trip to Alaska. Now I’m really not a fan of snow, in fact, I’ve always tried to escape the snow! But when the opportunity to take a trip to Alaska arose, I knew it was something I couldn’t pass up. It was just as I imagined, the scenery and views were incredible, I honestly couldn’t put my camera down!

We spent some time exploring downtown anchorage and came across a few gems, one being a hotel called Hotel Captain Cook. It was a beautiful luxury style hotel with some great restaurants. We went to the Crow’s Nest located at the top of the hotel, there we got to see some amazing views of Anchorage.

The next day we went on a glacier cruise on the Prince William Sound. It was such a cool experience, I can honestly say I’ve never done anything like it. We got lucky enough to see some wild Orcas while we were out on the water, it was truly amazing! There were numerous glaciers along the way, one we were able to watch break off, so crazy! The cruise is something I would definitely recommend if you make a trip to Alaska because we got to see a lot of wildlife and scenery while boating around. The crew was very accommodating and our captain was very informative, pointing out all sorts of things for us to see. If you take a glacier cruise use Phillips Cruises and Tours, they were awesome!

Another place I enjoyed visiting was the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. I have always been an animal lover and this place is so great because they help the animals that have been injured or orphaned and can’t survive in the wild and take them in. There were black bears, brown bears, bison, coyotes etc. Not only did I love seeing all of the animals, but the atmosphere there was so peaceful and gorgeous.

This was such a peaceful spot, I loved it!

While checking out the town of Girdwood we came upon a resort called Alyeska that was so beautiful! It was nestled between a bunch of mountains and gave you a real lodge type feel. We ate a sushi restaurant there, Sakura Asian Bistro, that was so, so good! A restaurant that I hope to try the next visit is called Seven Glaciers. It was at the top of the mountain, 2,300 feet above sea level, an air tram is how you get to the restaurant, how cool is that!

This time of year was a great time to visit Alaska, the weather was great, between 60 and 70 degrees. You also get a lot of daylight hours, the sun would rise around 5:30 am and set about 11:30 pm, that was definitely strange, but cool! Alaska was so gorgeous and I’m so glad I got to add Alaska to my list of travels!
